While Gavin was born in Connecticut, he has spent much time studying and working internationally. He has studied at colleges in both France and China before enrolling at Columbia University in 2008. He is now fluent in Chinese, French, and Spanish, and currently studies Japanese.
Shortly after arriving in China, he began to work for Lovells LLP, one of the largest law firms in the world and one of the most prestigious in Asia. There he help launch the Sino-Global Legal Alliance (SGLA --www.SGLALAW.com), which provided him with the opportunity to explore China's cities as well as to understand the power of a network. Building on his entrepreneurial talent, Gavin took the opportunity to establish better commercial and cultural bridges between the international community and the upcoming world power, China, while working with local Chinese as well as international companies and organizations. With these real-world experiences, he began collaborating with Derrick Fu in the summer of 2008 to build the initial foundations of what would become Global China Connection.
Gavin is frequently called upon to speak regarding his experiences with Chinese language and culture and youth leadership and entrepreneurship at prestigious events at prestigious institutions such as the United Nations, Tsinghua University, Peking University, Cornell University and Columbia University. For relaxation, he enjoys turning to music, playing jazz piano and frequenting local cafes as an outlet for self-expression.
Global China Connection: From Columbia to Stanford and McGill
The previous century was the American Century. The next 100 years belong to the Chinese. Amid this rapidly changing order, hundreds of Chinese students and Chinese studies majors at top universities in North America have recently formed a network dedicated to forging new economic, cultural, and political links between East and West.
